These sweet little faces were inspired by a comic strip likeness by illustrations that were featured in the Ladies Home Journal in 1909. The earliest dolls created in bisque or signed, can be worth upward of thousands of dollars, making the Kewpie Vintage Doll highly sought after and collectible.

The branding of the Kewpie Vintage Doll was seen in other items such as coloring books, cups and plates. The original dolls had very straight posture and the arms were positioned at the sides. Today however that has changed dramatically and the dolls can be seen in a variety of poses, themes and designed from a variety of materials.

The signature look of a Vintage Kewpie Doll is the plump rosy cheeks, larger than saucer eyes and a little curl of hair at the top of the head. The overall small size of this doll, combined with the over-sized facial features added an almost ''cherub'' like look to them, which was very appealing. Some Vintage Kewpie Dolls have little angel-like wings attached to them representing Cupid, where the name Kewpie originated from.

Researching a Vintage Kewpie Doll is important to ensure that it can have its provenance verified. If you are able to do so, then the value of these very special little dolls can be priceless.
